Doctor Steve Beaty’s focus, commitment and passion for helping people to see well became when he was still just in the second grade while living in a small rural town in Tennessee. The young Steve Beaty and future Doctor Steve Beaty was experiencing a difficult time after relocating to a new school. Steve was often very difficult and disruptive in class and was not achieving well academically in school. However, during one particular day Steve took a standardized test only to discover that he scored much better than he had originally expected. After a brief parent-teacher conference with Steve’s parents and Steve’s teacher, Steve proceeded to visit the local family optometrist for his very first eye exam. The optometrist then explained to Steve and his parents that Steve was in fact struggling with an eye condition known as myopia which is more commonly known as nearsightedness which was causing Steve to struggle in school. Once Steve put on his brand new pair of glasses, he began seeing people with greater clarity, he began to actually see the leaves on trees for the first time in his young life. Over time, Steve’s grades improved and he began to become excited about how his optometry experience had changed his life. 

Once Steve completed high school in Trussville, Alabama he went on to graduate from Auburn University with honors. Steve then earned a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Steve then finished his residency in Family Practice at the University Eye Institute in Houston Texas where Steve also served as the Chief Resident.
